On Friday, 6 December, Maria de Lurdes Nunes, known to all as Lurdinha, returned to the house of the Father. Born on 12 February 1960 in Bananal, Brazil, she had joined the Canção Nova community since its beginnings. In 2006, she was sent to Jerusalem as a journalist to produce content for Canção Nova TV in Brazil. Soon came the proposal from the Custody of the Holy Land to collaborate with Canção Nova in the creation of what we now know as the Christian Media Centre. With the aim of telling the world about the Holy Land, Christian life, Church activities and the Custody's Mission. Since then she has worked tirelessly to fulfil this mission. Through the Terra Santa News, she produced numerous news items, documentaries and broadcasts, initially in Italian and Portuguese, later translated into more than 10 languages. Throughout this period she was editor-in-chief and coordinator of the content produced by the CMC. With her direct and spontaneous manner, she followed the visits of Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis, also telling the story of the Custody of the Holy Land and the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem. Lurdinha was not only a communicator: she was a missionary, a visionary who gave her life to God, making her love for Jesus the fundamental motivation to carry out her mission. The brothers of the Custody salute her in a special way. Br Patton Patton, Custos of the Holy Land, expressed his appreciation and admiration: ‘For us friars of the Custody, Lurdinha was much more than a collaborator. She has been a sister and a friend who has shared our vocation and our mission: to walk in the footsteps of Jesus in his Holy Land and to proclaim the Fifth Gospel in word, image and deed.’
