In the Holy Land, the celebration of Jesus' Ascension is unique because it takes place right on the Mount of Olives, where, according to tradition, Jesus ascended to heaven.
Here, in particular, it is possible to pray and hear the voice of Jesus who promised to remain with His disciples every day until the end of the world!

Fr. DOBROMIR JAZTAL, ofm
Vicar of the Custody of the Holy Land
"Even though Jesus ascended to the Father, He never left His disciples and He will never leave all those who believe ... all the powers were given to them, as the same Gospel affirms. This power remains within the Church and at the disposal of every believer, to endure adversities and conflicts, in the course of the journey.”

Because of the happy coincidence of the calendars of the Eastern and Western Churches, this year the Passover and consequently also the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord were celebrated on the same day. Today's celebration is therefore characterized by an ecumenical aspect.

Fr. DOBROMIR JAZTAL, ofm
Vicar of the Custody of the Holy Land
"When we celebrate Easter together and consequently the Ascension and Pentecost as a result of the coinciding festivities dates on the calendars, we feel more united: we present ourselves to God and at the same time we pray to the Lord."

On the eve of the Solemnity, the Greek Orthodox, the Armenians, the Syrians, the Copts and the Catholics entered in a solemn procession the courtyard.
During the all-night vigil, there was an atmosphere of prayer and brotherhood in the tents.

SOPHIA SIDHOM
Coptic Christian woman/ USA
"It is wonderful to be all together and to see everyone, each in their own way, address their prayers to God. I like to see the different groups with different rites and I think it is very important that we all are showing unity in Christ."

The Catholic celebration concluded with the mass presided by Fr. Dobromir. The Chapel filled with people looked small.....
In the homily that illustrates the meaning of the Liturgy, Father Dobromir said that this is the time of the Church in which the Holy Spirit renders in men the same filial feeling that animated Jesus' life and prepared him for the encounter with the Father.”

LEANDRO MARINHO PERPETUO
Jesus' Friends Community
“Being here means we can relive a story of two thousand years ago, a story that comes to life again in our hearts, renewing our faith in the hope that in ten days the Lord will send us His Holy Spirit!”
