A group of Franciscans from Brazil made a two-week trip to the Holy Land: an opportunity to re-ignite the call they received 25 years ago.

Fr. GERALDO VAN BUUL, ofm
Custody of the Holy Land
“This group has come here with a program organized by the Franciscan provinces in Brazil to reinvigorate their vocation.”

Fr. JORGE HARTMANN, ofm
Commissioner of the Holy Land
“The main reason for this trip is to offer the friars coming from all over Brazil the opportunity to go on a Franciscan pilgrimage, and to renew and revive the vocational choice they they made 25 years ago.”

Being in contact with the Holy Places is a profound experience: full of moments of prayer, retreats and visits to shrines and also from the opportunity to meet the local Franciscan community and to integrate with it.

Fr. JORGE HARTMANN, ofm
Commissioner of the Holy Land
“The Franciscan presence in the Holy Land began 800 years ago, thanks to St. Francis, who came here on pilgrimage in 1219.”

Fr. GERALDO VAN BUUL, ofm
Custody of the Holy Land
“The Custody of the Holy Land is still very special, because it is a community of friars who have different backgrounds and who come from different parts of the world.”

It is the opportunity for a renewal of faith for those who have already been to the Holy Land, but especially for those who have come here for the first time.

Fr. LUIS ANTONIO ALIBERTI, ofm
Brazil
"They are strong experiences, because they happen only once in a lifetime. I have a hearing impairment and have to read lips, could never have imagined being able to be in the Holy Land for my silver jubilee. It was really a special invitation and it is exciting to see the origin of our faith: be where Jesus walked renews my faith.”

Fr. MANOEL DA SILVA LIMA, ofm
Brazil
“I will not return to Brazil as the same person when I left. I'll be a new man, a new Christian. I hope that many will come here, and that they do not wait until their 30th or 25th anniversary to come: the sooner, the better! This also applies to Christians of other groups or communities: it would be good if everyone could come here. Certainly their faith would not be the same as before, but it would be stronger.”
