Christmas, with its magical atmosphere, opens the door to creativity. Decorations, candles and ornaments: there are many people who love to customize these objects and handmake ornaments that evoke Christmas. Mariane, for example, a young Christian woman from Bethlehem, creates small innovative works of art for the local market, with raw materials like olive wood and wax. MARIANE HOSH "Mariane's Art World" - Bethlehem "I started two years ago, making Christmas tree picture ornaments. One of the challenges I faced was finding high quality materials. I use olive wood from Bethlehem, in various sizes, which allows me to make my ideas into a product. I get the pine cones and the branches at Ein Karem.” Relying on traditional equipment combined with the use of modern techniques, "Mariane's Art World" creates high quality accessories that allow her to develop her skills. MARIANE HOSH "Mariane's Art World" - Bethlehem "I am currently working on Christmas decorations, but I want to diversify my products; I would love to participate in exhibitions and make ornaments all year round for different occasions. I also paint and I want to develop my style, to be able to paint not only on paper, but also on olive wood.” These simple handmade objects are definitely a [nice] Christmas present. Ghada, a Christian woman from Ramallah, with a little imagination, passion and some magic , turns candles into a perfect gift. GHADA KAPATAIS “Ghada’s Handmade Art” – Ramallah "At the beginning of the process, I need a pattern, and I choose the shape I like best. Then I pour the wax in the mold and it takes a day to cool off and be ready. The second day I dip the candle in the colors that I chose for that occasion: red, green or any other color, after which I start sculpting the shapes I selected for it. I immerse it in the enamel, a material that creates a protective veil on the candle. The last step is to clean it for the person to whom I will give it.” These details will make the difference and they make these creations unique. GHADA KAPATAIS “Ghada’s Handmade Art” – Ramallah “My artistic touch is what distinguishes my work . Many people work with candles, but I give the candle a different, more personal touch, both in the carving and in the details.” Two women with different talents and styles, but certainly united by the love for their land. Christmas is a pause of hope for them who, beyond walls and barriers, are blessed to live [this season] where it all began. GHADA KAPATAIS “Ghada’s Handmade Art” – Ramallah “The Christmas candle is symbolic. For me and for many others, the candle is a sign of light, symbolizing the baby Jesus who came into the world to give us light and life.”
