The Terra Sancta Museum is not only a gallery of treasures, but also a real project of education, awareness of the world of art and cultural preservation for the benefit of the local population. In this context, last May 12, the Museum organized a workshop on architectural design at Bethlehem University, in collaboration with Bethlehem University and funding from the French Development Agency and NDC development center. HANADI SOUDAH YOUNAN Dean of the Faculty of Arts - Bethlehem University The collaboration between Bethlehem University and Franciscans is historic. We thank the Custody of the Holy Land for funding this project: a Custody staff member has been teaching this kind of work in the laboratory, so that our students receive training from people working in the field and not just from the theory that is done in the classroom. LORRAINE ABU AZIZA Architect - Technical Office of the Custody of the Holy Land Thanks to this grant, we implemented a "capacity building" project for Bethlehem University students, sharing knowledge, methods and techniques that we use at the Terra Sancta Museum. This type of workshop gives Palestinian students the opportunity to acquire training that is not available in local universities. The "Antiquities and Cultural Heritage" program at Bethlehem University's Faculty of Arts was established in the 2021-2022 academic year and is the first of its kind in Palestine. Prof OMAR ABED RABBO Director of the department of archaeology at Bethlehem University This workshop is very important for archaeology students because it expands their skills in archaeological painting and architecture and prepares them for future work at archaeological sites. In this workshop we focus on the process of drawing architecture and artifacts at archaeological sites. FATIMA ASAAD Student in the antiquities and cultural heritage program The workshop includes three meetings where we learn how to draw in the field, because this is what will be required of us in our future work when we are on excavations. And it also gives us a broader experience of the university, so that after graduation, we can go directly into the field, ready for work. Prof OMAR ABED RABBO Director of the department of archaeology at Bethlehem University The Palestinian job market needs qualified students who can work in museums, archaeological sites, the Ministry of Antiquities and Tourism, and civil and government institutions dealing with antiquities and cultural heritage.
